Fosters research partnerships between leading UO and UCAD faculty
on pressing sustainability and environmental issues
About the Center
UO has partnered with Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) and the Government of Senegal to advance a collaborative research center with projects based on joint proposals, research, and publications by academics from both universities.
As the African continent undergoes rapid urbanization, accelerated natural resource extraction, and ramped-up demand for jobs, housing, health and education, visionary societies have a chance to avoid the many mistakes of the already industrialized world, and instead lay foundations for a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development.
The Senegal-Oregon Center will foster partnerships between leading UO and Senegalese faculty members, with appropriate involvement of carefully selected advanced graduate and undergraduate students. These collaborative research teams could also include other Senegalese institutions of higher education and research, relevant Government of Senegal agencies and ministries, and the NGO community.
